My design concept for This Happy Breed is to paint an accurate portrait of family life in the twenties and thirties. I am planning to design base costumes for each of the characters in the play that can then be added too with extra layers. This will hopefully give the illusion that the characters are changing costumes in each scene without the actors having to complete full costume changes between each scene.

returns from war. The play opens with him moving into his new house in clapham along with his wife Ethel, sister Sylviahis mother Mrs Flint and his three children. The play follows their lives through the 1920s and 1930s ending just as another war looms over Britain.
